Teaching & Mentorship
I am committed to training the next generation of seismologists, geophysicists, and monitoring specialists through immersive teaching, mentoring, and lab-based experiences. My approach blends fieldwork, real-time system design, Python programming, and data science to prepare students for roles in observatories, research institutions, and national agencies.
FLO-VO (Florida Virtual Volcano Observatory)
I lead the development of FLO-VO as a hybrid real-time monitoring lab and educational platform. Students learn by simulating observatory operations, deploying sensors, analyzing real-time data, and building reproducible workflows.
Python + Geophysics Curriculum
I advocate for and teach courses focused on Python programming, waveform analysis, and time series methods. I also mentor students in data processing, ML integration, and open-source development via research projects and lab-based learning.
Student Mentorship
I actively mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including those with engineering, computer science, and international backgrounds. I’ve co-advised senior capstone projects, NSF REU interns, and supported career development into graduate programs and national labs.
Planned MOOC
I am currently developing a Massive Open Online Course on volcano-seismic monitoring, designed to reach a global audience. It will include access to open datasets, Python notebooks, and simulated monitoring scenarios.
